THE
COLDSTREAM GUARDS ASSOCIATION CUP HANDICAP STAKES
1. The 26th running of The Coldstream Guards Association Cup will take place at York Racecourse on Saturday 10th October 2009. The race will be run at approximately 5.25 pm and Brigadier R J S Wardle OBE DL, an Association Vice President and President of the York Branch, will present the Cup to the winning owner. Two NCOs in tunic order will lead the winning horse to the paddock.
2.
As in previous years I have negotiated discounted badges for members of
the Association as follows; County Stand Tickets £17 and Grandstand\Paddock tickets
£11. Branches wanting tickets should bid in bulk
to the Advance Booking Office making it clear in their letter that the tickets
are for The Coldstream Guards Association. Nulli
Secundus Club and Sergeants P & P members wanting tickets should bid through
their local Association Branch or to the Advance Booking Office, The Racecourse,
York YO23 1EX, again, making it clear in their letter that the tickets are for
The Coldstream Guards Association. Please note that the dress code in the
3. Once again we have been allocated the exclusive use of The Sportsman’s Bar and to ensure that exclusivity I am arranging for two Guardsmen in tunic order to be positioned outside the doors. This means that Association members wishing to use this facility MUST be in possession of their Association Membership card. Without it THEY WILL NOT GET IN!
4. Guests of Branch Members will need something to identify them as having an entitlement to use the Sportsman’s Bar and courtesy of Mannie Cook of Middlesboro Branch I attach a copy of the “ID Card “ he issues in his Branch. Branches wishing to make use of this should produce their own cards locally.
5 The Sportsman’s Bar, as the name suggests, has its own bar and I have arranged for a Tote to be operating as well as a racing tipster who will be in the bar to offer betting advice on all the races. He will be in situ from 1330 hours.
6. The Sportsman’s Bar will be found to the left of the flag poles, one of which will be flying the Association flag.
7. Gates open at 1130 hours and racing begins at1400 hours.
8. The race will be televised on Racing
9. Last year the Race Committee identified an irregularity in the purchase of tickets. Certain Association members bought tickets in bulk at discounted prices and then sold them at full price to persons not entitled to the Association discount. York Race Committee has told me that should they discover evidence that this happens again they will remove the privilege of discounted tickets from the Association. Branch secretaries are asked to warn their members accordingly.
10. Please give this event the widest possible publicity. Those who have been before will tell you what a great day out it is so please come along and support the race and the Association and have a fantastic day out.
