PROJECT HOUGOMONT

6.   Project Hougomont is a heritage project to save and preserve Hougomont Farm on the Waterloo battlefield for the long term future, and was officially launched on 18th June.

The project has a website from which further information can be obtained:

www.projecthougomont.com

As part of fundraising for the Project, two paintings by Chris Collingwood, an internationally respected artist in the portrayal of scenes from the Napoleonic era, have been commissioned.  The paintings are entitled: ‘Struggle for Hougomont – The British Guards Defence’ and Struggle to Hougomont – The French Assault’.  They focus on a section of the work at Hougomont which has recently collapsed, and which originally prompted the idea for the Project.

Details of the formats and prices can be obtained at www.waterloo-collection.com

CONSULTATIVE GROUP OF THE PAST

7.   The above group has approached the Chief of the General Staff (CGS) requesting permission to contact ex servicemen who served in Northern Ireland during OP BANNER.   The Consultative Group on the Past, Chaired by Lord Eames, the former Archbishop of Armagh, is an independent group established to consult across the community on the best way to deal with the legacy of the past in Northern Ireland.  It will be working to produce a report later this year which will contain recommendations on ways to support Northern Ireland society in building a shared future.  Lord Eames has been given permission to contact Regimental Associations and a copy of the CGS’s letter of authority is attached for your information.
