THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS CHARITABLE FUNDS

WELFARE/BENEVOLENCE CHARTER

 

 

INTRODUCTION

1. The Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds are grouped together by the Charity Commissioners as the general charities, for the benefit of the Coldstream Guards. They are accepted charities and recognised by the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales under the number 3939582.

2. The Charitable Funds are administered by the Regimental Trustees though the Assistant Regimental Adjutant who is responsible to the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel carries out the day to day running of the Funds.

OBJECTIVES

3. The objectives of The Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds are to relieve the need, suffering, distress and hardship of Coldstreamers past and present, their spouses, widows, children and dependants.

4. The Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds are not a bottomless pit and it is the duty of the Trustees to ensure that the assets available reach those who are most in need of financial assistance and where the most good can be done.

ELIGIBILITY

5. Past and present members of the Coldstream Guards may apply for assistance. However, to be eligible for assistance applicants must have completed basic training. Those who did not complete their recruit training will not be eligible to receive assistance from the Charitable Funds.

6. Former wives of Coldstreamers without dependants are not eligible for assistance.

7. A widow who remarries or co-habits ceases to be eligible for assistance from The Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds.

 

 

 

CRITERIA

8. The following considerations may be taken into account, but will not be the deciding factors, when deciding on the amount of support to provide:

  1. Number of years of service.
  2. Number of years since leaving the Colours.
  3. Service conduct.
  4. Association membership.
  5. Contributions to the One Day Pay Scheme.
  6. Current financial situation.

9. The normal method of notifying the Regimental Trustees of a case is through The Royal British Legion (TRBL) or through Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) who will produce a report on current circumstances including a financial statement. Information received from other sources should normally be passed to SSAFA/TRBL for investigation and submission of their report.

10. In exceptional circumstances assistance may be given without a SSAFA/TRBL report.

11. Officer Welfare cases should be referred to the Officers’ Association.

EXCLUSIONS

12. In common with other Service Charities The Coldstream Guards Charitable Funds will not normally assist with the following:

a. Repayment of loans.

b. Legal expenses (including bankruptcy applications).

c. Private medical/dental care.

  1. Funeral expenses/headstones.
  2. Debts.
  3. Payment of court fines or other sentences imposed by a court of law.
  4. Costs of moving wives/partners from married quarters.
  5. School fees.

13. Notwithstanding the above, all applications for Welfare Assistance/Benevolence are considered and help is given, if appropriate, according to needs and circumstances.
