Fellow Coldstream Drummers; Past Present and Future.
During our years service within the Coldstream Guards Corps of Drums and since then
our Regiment has maintained a very high standard of drumming within the British
Army and may I add, been well known for it! Long before my time the traditions
and music where passed down from generation to generation of men and boys. With
ever changing circumstances the demands on a modern day drummer are even
greater than ever before.
In recent months several of us not so old and sometimes
still bold, have been back to teach and pass on our knowledge we still have to
The Mercian Regiment & The Grenadier Guards (spit), but we have also been
back in uniform to march with younger less experienced Drummers who through no
fault of their own have been unable to keep up their drumming skills or been
unable to recruit and train drummers due to the ever demanding operational
commitments.
I therefore suggest to those Ex Coldstream Drummers wishing to do so, to come
together to mark a point in history whereby forming a Corps of Drums;

So that the Drumming traditions of our Regiment and that
of others be carried into the future using the past and present knowledge and
experience that is still available today for years to come.
To form such an organisation I suggest we approach the
National Lotto for a grant.
In order to secure a grant from the National Lotto to
form a Corps of Drums of Past and Present Coldstream Drummers, a trio of us has to come together
to form a legal constitution, open a bank account with at least two signatories
and become a Registered Charity.
After which time the Lotto will look at an application
for a grant to take a Corps of Drums to Coldstream for the 40 Anniversary during Civic
Week in August 2008.
May I also suggest / propose that after August we then
continue as a
